If Trump’s cardinal rule had been, “Don’t listen to anyone who has served in government before”, he would have fared much better on many issues, including this one. There were too many “experienced” advisors who betrayed his trust to steer policy toward preferred establishment outcomes.
Unfortunately the Trump-hating Senators have a huge say in who can be confirmed. His choices were quite limited.
