I agree. It doesn’t pass the smell or commonsense test.
This had drug dealer written all over it. Mass shooters are either nutters or religious zealots. They don’t sound like religious zealots and it would be unheard of to have a collection of psychopaths - three men and a woman - in the same room who have gathered to commit a ‘mass shooting.’
They were either dealing drugs/security for drug dealers or were poised to rip-off a drug deal.

Agreed. The hotel is more than a block from the stadium and only six or seven stories high. Although a shooter could certainly pick off people going to or from the All-Star game, this would not have been like Las Vegas where the gunner(s) had a high density, "captive audience" as a target. For mass casualties, the Union Station Hotel would have been a better choice. Regardless, we should all be happy that LEO took these guys down.
