The city of Charlottesville, Va. followed up its removal of two controversial Confederate statues Saturday with the lightning-fast toppling of a third local landmark: a monumental tribute to explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and Sacagawea.
In an emergency meeting called with 20 minutes’ notice, the Charlottesville City Council voted unanimously to cancel another piece of public art targeted by left-wing activists.
“I feel that it should just be melted down,” Rose Ann Abrahamson, a Sacagawea descendant, said during the council meeting, The Daily Progress reported. “I feel that it’s entirely offensive and it should be obliterated.”

When do we get to the part where they devour each other like Japanese Ko fish?
In solidarity with those that are tearing down public statues of the United States’ historical figures, I willing accept that all printed images of these leaders be sent to my mailing address. Those small paper images printed with green ink are especially welcome. I prefer those of Benjamin Franklin, but those of Jackson, Hamilton, and Lincoln are also accepted.
she wants to ‘obliterate’ her ancestor? done
every white man statue in america needs to come down according to BLM and the other ethnic race haters
Is SHE a direct descendant of Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, AKA POMP? or his and sisters. Otter Woman, Cedar Woman and Different Breast?
Screw this “Sacajawea descendent” and her melting it down.
Why would one want to do that to one’s ancestor?
I agree.
I doubt she is related to Sacajawea.
Don’t forget Grant and Washington.
This one.

Once the local politics started trending loony left in Charlottesville and the downtown mall area started to get less safe, a relative of mine who had lived there since 2001 sold his house and moved to a more conservative and rural area in 2016. He could see the writing on the wall.
“Abrahamson” certainly sounds ethnic, but there’s no way she’s really an Indian.
Exactly. Why don’t these angry privileged self loathing evil marxist scum give away their property and their money to the indigenous tribes or to whoever they keep claiming is victimized by the system and head back to Europe or from whence their ancestors came. I can’t take anymore of this communist statue toppling/ name change / America hating garbage.
No way this woman is a descendant as Sacaawea’s baby boy died at a very young age and she most likely died before giving birth to a second child. There is no record of any other offspring after her first child and he died very young.
A statue of a twerking troglodyte will better represent the town anyway.
My first thought was she was tracking. Then read that’s what the article said as well.
Hey, they also took down Lincoln a while back. Can’t wait for them to topple MLK. You know they will.
Several years ago, before all this woke shit, my wife and I visited our daughter’s family in the suburbs of Richmond, VA (Capitol of the Confederacy).
Among other local sites, they took us on a day trip to a Civil War Memorial (I forget the exact name).
I was thrilled because although I grew up in Pennsylvania, my maternal great grandfather was from Georgia and fought for the South, and I’ve always wanted to see some of the historic sites and remembrances from a Southern perspective.
Boy was I in for a disappointment!
We arrived at the park, and walked along some beautiful creeks, looked at some preserved building structures, and read the signage describing their significance.
It slowly dawned on me that this was no Confederate memorial… it was a memorial of a POW camp where Union prisoners of war were held captive by the evil Confederates.
I should have known that the kind of memorial I had hoped to see simply did not exist.
My sweet daughter was oblivious to the sense of betrayal I was feeling - and that’s the way I kept it.
I don’t think it is possible for her generation to understand that following the War between the States there was a tradition of mutual respect between the two sides.
At our local graveyard in PA, the two or three Confederate veterans who had moved north after the war and who were buried there (including my great grandfather) were paid equal respect all during my childhood (1952-1970), and were encouraged to display their symbols and flags.
I never heard a divisive or derogatory word - not once. My great grandfather is still considered a “founding father” of the town due to his various charities and contributions - his Confederacy was a non-issue - nobody gave it a second thought.
I remember the local women’s group would even place small Confederate flags on the Confederate graves each Memorial Day. I am told that when they were alive, these Confederate veterans who lived in my Pennsylvania town proudly marched in the Fourth of July and Memorial Day parades, in full dress Confederate uniforms, alongside all the Union veterans.
It wasn’t until last year that I was shocked to learn that some symbols were being removed from the grave sites in our town because they were now considered offensive by this new breed of woke ass-holes.
My question is; if the veterans of the two sides could respect their differences, and even honor each other’s patriotism after the war, who are we to come along 160 years later and take offense?
It is disgusting.
Statue of Lewis & Clark and Sacagawea toppled in Charlottesville.
Is it not time we stop the liberals from destroying our history completely?
There nonsense is too much to bear. They would destroy our history so they could make up their own story. Do not let them. They are twisted.
Where do you get that information? It’s not correct sac’s son lived for a time here in Placer County during the Gold Rush. That said, the simpleton activist probably is lying

Bottom line, these statues are Art.
Art is in the Eye of the beholder, and possibly in the time of the beholder.
Regardless how do you know what art may be considered great 100 years from now?
We already know that this and many other statues have been considered great art at one period of time.
If you can put a jesus doll in a jar of urine and call it art I think you are stupid, if you can make a million dollars, maybe you are smarter than I think, but you are still stupid.
p.s. if you don’t like Classical music that does not give you the right to get a mob together and burn and ban everything old and classical.
