It’s all they have. COVID is the squirrel that distracts the low-info from thinking about election fraud and demented Presidents and skyrocketing gas prices and that sort of stuff. Without COVID, things would turn very, very bleak for them very, very fast.

I'm spending the week in Minnesota and drove out here from Connecticut over the long weekend. Pretty much everybody I've run into (including myself of course) have had no masks. Not in all the restaurants, the stores, the diners, the gas stations - nothing.

With the exception of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, I have seen almost nobody wearing the confounded masks that were supposedly so important.
