Tuesday was the six-month anniversary of the January 6 riot that Democrats are treating like Pearl Harbor Day. They would prefer that the nation focus on that and forget the fact that the country’s blue cities were on fire for pretty much the entire summer of 2020 and the people they supported had the matches.
The rush was on by Democrats to support total anarchy and treat law enforcement as the enemy. Few were quicker to jump on that bandwagon than NYC's Mayor Bill de Blasio. Mayor Bill was more than eager to hang out with Black Lives Matter agitators all the while being one of the more prominent voices to consistently call to defund the police.
New York was one of the first major cities to cut its police budget. In a very short time, de Blasio and the Democrats had created such a toxic environment that NYPD officers were retiring in droves. The number of applications for retirement had to be capped to prevent a total decimation of the force.
What followed could have been predicted by any fourth-grader. Violent crime spiked in all of the Democrat-run cities that kneecapped their police forces. Within a year, they were all clamoring to get their cops back.
This crime-ridden, anti-cop festering mess that de Blasio has created provides an interesting backdrop to the way New York City’s upcoming mayoral race is playing out.
We kinda/sorta have the result of the convoluted ranked-choice Democratic primary, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is likely to be declared the winner. Adams is a retired NYPD officer who will now face Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa in the election.
As my colleague John Sexton wrote over at Hot Air, this almost certainly means that Adams is going to be New York’s next mayor.

It is not just a matter of defunding the cops that is causing the crime increase, but legislation by our totally Democrat state government that eliminates bail laws and sets people free from prison for various reasons. Our DA doesn’t prosecute rioters who destroy people’s businesses.
The latest was to free everyone who had been in prison for a certain amount of time or was over a certain age. Forget what the crime was.
So it is much more than defunding.
WHAT they defunded is also important: the undercover cops.
All the candidates, except for far-left Wiley, a friend of AOC’s, and Morales, both women, were nominally in favor of re-funding the police, because they knew what the people wanted. Whether the speakers would have followed through on their speech is another story.
Now that we have Adams for the Dem, anyone who doesn’t vote for Curtis Sliwa is stark raving mad. They either love crime or they don’t know who the real McCoy is.
They never carried weapons. Vigilantes is a word that lefties love. Guardian Angels was started decades ago because people were getting attacked as they left the Broadway shows and went to find a restaurant or their car. Many of the Angels go on to become cops.
Curtis has been much more than that in recent years, as many people know. He’s an outstanding public figure who always says what you’re dying to hear, and he genuinely means it.
Adams is the choice of the Dem machine. Almost nothing more needs to be said, but there’s a lot more in a positive vein about Curtis.
One other thing about Adams: He was not against ending the entrance exams for the science high schools until Yang came along and was successfully campaigning on that issue. Then he stole the issue from Yang.
That should give people an idea of the sincerity of his beliefs, aside from his belief that he should win.
There's always Shitcago, where the voters are too stupid to do anything other than vote for a leftist lesbian licker, Lori Lightfoot.
The short-name for her is Five-L.
