The sculpture is of a young, distraught boy standing atop a red tower with a melting shark in his arms, a visual warning of rising sea levels and the destruction they could wreak.
But for some residents on the southern edge of Vancouver's False Creek, the proposed 7.8-metre-tall sculpture, to be installed temporarily amid manicured lawns and waterfront residences, is a blemish.
"Do I think the art is suitable for this location? No," said Maggie Rayner, a resident of a neighbouring building, while strolling past the site Sunday afternoon.
"I don't think it's appropriate, the scale for the space."
Those comments have been echoed by a group of residents who have set up a sign in protest at the proposed site, a small elevated park space bordering the bike path near Stamps Landing.
The disapproval has led to an online petition with more than 1,000 signatures.

It’s okay to topple public art we don’t like.
If they can take down President Grant and Lincoln, and an elk, we can take down their garbage.
Art is to only make straight white Christian males uncomfortable.
Any art which makes blacks, Muslims, or gays uncomfortable will be destroyed (like the statues of dead white males were torn down across the country over the past year).
Likely a statement about man supposedly ‘killing the oceans’ with pollution and climate ate change
Satan and those that consciously or subconsciously or unknowingly follow him making it known that they are morally corrupt and perverted
They are Demon Driven whether they realize it or not

It is supposed to be a naked obamy?
I know.
He’s a homeless guy about to use the sidewalk to take care of business.
Is that supposed to inspire baby daddies to take care of their spawn?
If he’s trying to save the shark, he might put it back in the water.
Btw, that boy has some weird-ass legs. Artistic license or ineptitude?
Communists have long wanted to make art meaningless so people don’t believe in anything; are easier to take over.
