Carpetbagging is not one of them. Your excuse for not liking Colonel Allen West rings hollow.

I will vote for Abbott. I like Allen West but I do not like carpetbaggers on either side. West moved to Texas just a few years ago.

We need one great candidate, not two fighting it out, and letting a democrat or McConaughey sneak in. West is being stupid and selfish here.

They will have plenty to debate.

Grabbot only moves to the right when there is an election. The second it is over, he will move back to the left just like he always does and do his best to vacuum up all of the campaign money whether he is up for election or not.

He looks at what DeSantis or someone who is able to innovate is doing and if it looks successful Grabbot claims credit for it since it was his idea all along anyway.

He needs all of this campaign money so he can run for president in 2024, because the position is owed him, just like Jeb!. He’s in a wheelchair for goodness sake!

I’ve never worked on a campaign but I am thinking real hard about volunteering for West. I am just that sick of Grabbot.

Abbott acts like a conservative only when he is running for re-election, just like John Cornyn.

Forgot to add that Texas conservatives do not like Abbott.

In addition to being very conservative, West is also black. That’s not a qualification, but no one can deny that it will help.

There is also the Michael Berry factor. His lisenting audience is huge and Michael Berry hates Abbott.

YES!!!! Texas needs a leader. Wimpy Abbott is nothing more than a professional liar in the "W" mold.

Texas desperately needs Col. West's strength and character.

Allen West has poor campaign skills. He lost a GOP district in 2012 which Brian Mast (R) has been able to hold comfortably since 2016.

Same thought, unless he’s going to mud sling for someone else.

There already was a declared candidate against Abbott, Don Huffines. He is a former state senator who has considerable financial resources. Unlike Colonel West, he is a fifth generation Texan. I like West, and he might be a good Senator but conservatives need to focus on one candidate. While Abbott has shown some conservative leanings recently, his overall track record is moderate, like his predecessors Bush the Younger and Perry. Abbott shut down Texas and mandated masks. Desantis in Florida and Noem in South Dakota did much better.

Texas needs tough minded conservatives. We do not need the compromisers that have led to the Left continuing their winning streak.

Why ? The person who needs to be replaced is John Cornyn, not Abbot.

Many of us in Texas got very fed up with Abbott and his legalese edicts that often infringed on basic rights and left us to fight local authorities during 2020 while he sat back and twiddle his thumbs and refused to call the Legislature into special session to help deal with the pandemic. Because of that he is now trying really hard to get back in voters’ good graces. I welcome Colonel West’s candidancy.

Ross was right, and ahead of his time. I don’t know what West will bring to the table.

“They will have plenty to debate.”

Thanks, I don’t have a vote in this fight but the West supporters have positive arguments for West and policy disagreements with Abbot while Abbot supporters haven’t said anything positive about their candidate, just a “carpetbagger” charge against West which doesn’t touch on policy at all.

Great man, but he has a snowball's chance in hell of beating a popular incumbent Governor.

And if he did win he'd put the governorship of a light red state at risk.
