Last time I (and my neighbors) had something to celebrate aka setting off fireworks was when RBG took a dirt nap. Not so much today with the illegitimate occupation in the white house. And yeah I live in a very blue state but have purchased my fireworks from PA.

They have hidden motives in posting that article. The motive is “USA bad, no birthday party for you!” They disguise their intentions, hoping we won’t notice.

Can’t fool me!

But if there was a fireworks spectacular for Juneteenth, I’m sure NatGeo would be silent on the issue. Only things which make the general public happy about themselves are to be regulated, something celebrating collective guilt or fringe groups are always welcome.

Went out on the deck last night and there were fireworks going off all over the neighborhood. I could smell the gunpowder as the sky lit up all around.
Was I worried about pollution? No way.

One of my favorite summer events is a local steam tractor show. The air positively wreaks of incomplete coal combustion. Add to that the ubiquitous horse manure, and you have a pretty close facsimile to city life 150 years ago. The only things missing are animal carcasses, and open sewers and outhouses.

I find the show almost as refreshing as getting back to the clean air of 2021.

Stop griping people. We have it good.

The lead is prefaced by,

Using crowdsourced data from home air quality monitors, scientists found that vulnerable people and communities of color are disproportionately exposed to air pollution from firework celebrations.

Right away these small of bias, for what type of persons are most likely to have home air quality monitors bu wealthy liberals? Now I do not like the noise of the neighborhood fireworks which goes on for many nights, but opposed to

More:

Vulnerable populations appear to be more exposed to this pollution: On average, the authors found that PM2.5 spikes around the Fourth of July were higher in urban census tracts in Southern California, areas that tend to have higher asthma rates, more older individuals and small children, and more Black and Hispanic residents, compared with rural census tracts and those further north. Southern California metropolitan areas also tend to have fewer restrictions on municipal fireworks shows and looser oversight of at-home fireworks use compared with their counterparts in Northern California.

Of course more densely populated areas are more likely to have fireworks than rural areas, and thus more older individuals and small children, and more Black and Hispanic residents - and more "home shows" but that is one of the prices you pay for more jobs, stores and community.

The Babylon Bee should run a story where BIPOC are disproportionately affected by pollution from arson / riots.
