I often think about Abraham Lincoln who said the best way to handle an enemy was to make him a friend. His Secretary of War (name unrecalled)had been a bitter political enemy. When asked why he named him Secretary of War, Lincoln answered, “he was the best man for the position.” By the end of the war the Secretary was a close friend and confidant. (memory is a little fuzzy, but you get the drift)

You're dead nuts on. When I visit the 'States I notice the same things. Disgustingly fat, tatted, pierced, slovenly dressed people who have a bovine countenance and carry themselves like sacks of shit. Generally speaking it seems to me that the men lack any gravitas or seriousness and the women lack femininity and grace. I'm not that old but it shocks me to the core to see how Americans dress these days, especially when they get on an airplane. No class, low class and tacky.
