Viewing the collapse video, as well as the 2018 engineer's report, and 2017 engineers comments, as well as the pool contractors comments from 2 days prior...this appears to be the initial failure area, due primarily to a design flaw in the pool deck area which lead to substantial concrete beam/column cracking and exposed rusted rebar:

3 buildings to the right is the sister building Champlain Towers North. They are identical except North was built one year later.

I note the horrible condition of the roof color, as compared to the other structures surrounding it. Obviously, that’s a possible indicator of poor maintenance by the HOA, perhaps pointing to other lapses.

Also, look 3 buildings to the right in the picture. Notice anything similar?
