Fair enough, and it depends on the location, but neither should the minimum wage be $7.25/HR. In NY, 25 years ago it was $5/HR which was one of the higher wages. It’s 2021, we have 30 million illegals, and who knows how many resident aliens willing to work cheap, plus many citizen workers who get subsidized through gov’t food stamps & healthcare.

A fair minimum wage for unskilled labor today is anywhere from $10-12.50. I don’t understand why conservatives worship at the altar of the free-market economics when A) there is no true free market today and B)Without a national ethos that values all citizen workers from the lowest floorsweeper to the wealthy entrepeneur, we’re just a nation that imports “slave labor” at our own peril.

Yikes $6.25? After FICA & transportation costs that’s nothing. Might as well stay home and collect unemployment. $10.25 is where it should be for a state like MT. NY, where I live, is $12.50, which is fair, as it’s more expensive to live here.

Minimum wage increases aren’t aimed at the poor - they are aimed at triggering automatic increases in union contracts, resulting in loyal union voters and higher contribution revenues for the DNC. The marginally employable will still vote Democrat - whether they can get a job or not.

“The minimum wage is always $0.”

That reminds me of the politician Charlie Rangel. When young, he worked for a radio station for free - for the experience. Charlie likes “raising the minimum wage.” What he does not seem to realize is that most people working the minimum wage are young and are gaining experience.

In effect, Charlie (and many rich kids) can afford to work for free to gain experience. He and others have made it illegal for a poor kid to work for $5.00 an hour for experience.

Oh I realize that most minimum wage jobs are not as interesting as working at a radio station. However, most teach the importance of punctuality, dependability, conforming to some kind of dress code, having a good attitude, speaking at least somewhat properly, and getting along with people, especially the boss. For many, these are valuable lessons.

You are wrong. I have a son in Seattle & followed the news.

“Where do you think the money to pay workers [or taxes or any expense] comes from? Really.”

My wife and I own 3 companies and our fixed expenses each month is over $110,000 (payroll, utilities, property taxes)
We pay our employees $4-5 more per hour then the competition with full benefits and we still earn a nice 6 figure salary and hefty profits

MW of $7.50=8 hr is outright idiotoic.

We are on a race toward the bottom in regards to wages and benefits. Have fun with your future communism voted in by the unhappy masses.

“It’s been raised every year.”

It has not. It’s still $7.25 hr since 2009 for most states-some are at $7.50/8.00. Only some liberal cities and states have raised theirs.

“How many hours per week was you allowed to work, when you worked for minimum wage? Was it forty hours, and was you allowed to keep working hours per week? If you say yes, than you are lying,”

I was a busboy and bellhop and banquet room helper a Holiday Inn and they worked us more than 40 hours. I would start at 3:00 weekday and it would be lucky if I got out by 1:00am and then had to come in Saturday and Sunday morning’s at 6:30

My next year at age 17 was working at a gas station and it was the same. 50-60 hours per week in the summertime. This was 1978

I’m glad your empire is successful :)

Where does that money to pay workers [or taxes or any expense] come from?

Much of it from happy workers who work extra hard. Out turn over is near nil. Many employees have been with us over 20 years. My wife and I are both semi retired. Neither of us go into the offices until 11:00 and leave at 3-4:00. The employees do it all.

You’re either lying about your empire or you just don’t want to admit where the money to pay expenses comes from.

There is only one indefinite stream of income - what is it?

Yes.

Let me make it simple.

I want to have my windows washed.

I think $50 is a fair price.

My neighbor's daughter thinks that it is a fair price.

I give her $50, She washes my windows.

Everybody is happy.

government decides to stick its nose in.

They say I should pay a minimum wage of $20.00 an hour plus offer health insurance, safety equipment, FICA, a 401K, WC, Medicare and a bunch of other stuff.

I say, Forget it.

I will just rent a power washer and do the windows myself.

It will not be as nice a job as she would have done and she will not get the money and she will be under her moms feet rather then being out in the sunshine.

A job is lost.

And the fact is, some jobs just aren’t meant to provide for a family. They are to get your foot in the door, and give you the chance to move up.

Is this a school lesson?
I work in employee benefits (my main company)

I see the actual stats by private companies-not bs govt stats. We are on a race towards the bottom. About 40-45% of the American public is doing well and tnhta figure is dropping every few years. The rest are going paycheck to paycheck or worse.

Amazon slave labor is the new norm. Companies shedding benefits and hiring new workers via sub contract labor or
temp pools.

The owners, manager and key employees doing really well the rest of the employees not so much.
I see it in the companies I work with. I see their incomes. The average rank and file employees income has not changed much in 20 years. It went up under Trump.

Enjoy your communism when the masses have enough.
