Justus Angel and Mistress L. Horry were wealthy landowners in South Carolina’s Colleton District in the 1830s, in what is now Charleston County. The couple owned 84 slaves each for a total of 168, at a time when most of their peers owned a handful. Their slaves worked their plantation and made them rich. Angel and Horry also traded slaves for profit, showing no regard for dissolving slave families. They were no kinder or crueler to their slaves than anyone else. They were considered “slave magnates” because of the number of slaves they owned. They were referred to as the “economic elite.” They were also black.
Black people owned black people in all 13 original colonies and in every state that allowed slavery. Frequently, freed black people would go on to own more slaves than their white neighbors. In 1830, nearly a fourth of the free black slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves, and several owned more than 30, far surpassing their white slave-owning neighbors.
Yes, black people, frequently former slaves themselves, owned slaves. While it can be said that many black people owned family members to protect them and keep them close, black slave owners also bought and sold slaves for profit. Renowned African-American historian and Duke University Professor, John Hope Franklin, wrote “The majority of Negro owners of slaves had some personal interest in their property. There were instances, however, in which free Negroes had a real economic interest in the institution of slavery and held slaves in order to improve their economic status.” Franklin also wrote that roughly 3,000 free black people in New Orleans alone owned slaves.
... it’s now about equity. YOU need to pay for what other white, and black, people stopped doing over 155 years ago.

I was always under the impression it dependent on who owned their “contract”.
Good people let them go, the others didn’t.
Neat trick considering in 1860 there were fewer than 2500 free black people in all of Orleans Parish.
Cherokee Chief Major Ridge acquired the title "Major" in 1814, during his service leading the Cherokee alongside the United States General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend during the Creek War against the Red Sticks. ... He developed a plantation, owned 30 African-American slaves as laborers, and became a wealthy planter.Prominent Cherokee slaveowners included the families of Joseph Lynch, Joseph Vann, Major Ridge, Stand Watie, Elias Boudinot, and Principal Chief John Ross.
Built by Joseph Vann's father, James, the The Chief Vann House still stands near Chatsworth, GA. Before the main Cherokee Removal to Oklahoma Territory began, in 1837, Joseph Vann voluntarily moved his whole family and slaves there before the Trail of Tears started. He had his slaves build an identical replacement for this house in Oklahoma. He died in 1844 when one of the boilers blew up on one of his Stream boats that he was piloting on the Mississippi River.

The involuntary was “court” ordered, or ordered by the nobility in the UK.
I have read they even went so far and to order prostitutes to the colonies for “breeding” purposes.
My one ancestor came over under contract by his uncle who was trying to set up a nobility in the Conn River valley. Once he got off ship he hightailed it and somehow was made a freeman at Salem MA around 1636-38. How we do not know. Had to have been before 38 cause he filed law suit against a neighbor for livestock that knocked his fence down that year.
That is how I studied up on this stuff-genealogy is a time consuming thing.
My point is that American blacks are taught that some white guys came on boats with nets and kidnapped Africans. If what they claim is true, then Africans are some of the weakest races of people that have walked the earth to let some foreigners come and just "take" people with nets.
That's how you shut down any argument when you hear the claim of people with nets "kidnapping blacks". It brings to light the absurdity of their argument.
That Murkowski next to her?
Hi.
Methinks you are correct in assuming most people don’t know this fact. Just like, in smaller numbers there were White slaves.

Honored of all things sitting right next to Kamala.... ....and look who’s across the table from her.
Sorry Sir, I’ve seen your posts and you seem to be a one trick pony.
Worldwide acceptance of slavery was dying off fast, unless you were a moslem, then it’s business as usual.
What about all those Irish slaves? They were very numerous.
Who was responsible for capturing slaves (and still does to this day). You rail against the wrong people.
Many have been lucky that their ancestors got on the boats and have said so themselves.
Is life perfect for people? No, it is not, but you do not see a mass exodus for Africa either, do you?
I don’t agree with slavery, I never did, I believe God made all men free, but that doesn’t change what people did and continue to do.
To pretend that war though was about that and not about consolidating power is quite naive and hurtful to everyone.
A lot of blacks back in the day didn’t want to be “liberated” and pushed into service of the north. They were happy where they were. Of course nobody wants to talk about that.
I especially don’t think that anyone alive today should be paying money for things they had no part of. The BLM and similar groups have done nothing but harm relations. Nobody is denying any black people these days any advantages etc that anyone else has, at least not around here.
In the fwiw department, Black slaves fought for the CSA (about 60 thousand). They were offered their freedom if they survived their enlistment.
Do know the number who survived.

“even to the point of placing embargos on European goods”
What European goods would those be?
Susan Collins across the table. But not a single dark face sitting at that table...not one.
To be even more fair, General Sherman had all of the United States Census Records with him on the march to pin point where the locations of wealth were.
It's rather ludicrous to think that Union officers would get personal information from Southern slaves. A Northern Officer would not even understand the dialect of a White Southerner let alone a Black Slave.
That language barrier still exists today, but back then was vastly more of an obstacle. After all, we have had seventy years of the homogenizing effect of television to dilute the dialect differences.
Interesting, since it was against Confederate law to enlist blacks into the Confederate Army.
Would like to know the source that cites 60,000 slaves fought for the Confederacy.
>>If blacks cannot portray themselves as victims, then they lose the narrative and their money bag.<<
It’s really sad though. Conservative leaders like Larry Elder, Leo Terrell, Adam West, Candice Owens, Thomas Sowell, Ben Carson, Van Jones, Hershel Walker...and so on are great role models.
There has got to be a way to change that culture to make them more productive, stable part of society.
Farm products. Seed, equipment and so forth.
You’re exactly right. Ready Shelby Foote’s three volume set on the Civil War and if the south had had 1/2 the manufacturing of the north, they may have won.
