(And Memorial Day is too general, for what I believe was extraordinarily exhibited and accomplished on D-Day.)

There were a lot more "D-Days" in the Pacific Theater, what about those? Seems that outside of Pearl Harbor, most historians gave short shrift to that Pacific Theater, compared to the European Theater.

$18.00 x 8hrs= $144.00 x 4,000,000 workers/post office/military = $576,000,000.00 minimum considering most make more than 20-50 an hr. and could be up to 6 million workers

The Democrat/communist/Left Party is losing the negro vote ... they simply must pull out all the stops. This is “the true meaning of this invented new ‘Day of Obligation’” for the Left’s secular religion (or cult to be more accurate)

Well, maybe we should just have a World War Victory holiday.
Young people today know as little about that war as they do about the true history of the Civil War.

Good Night!

The only things they teach about WWII now are in the incarceration of the Japanese, and that the Soviets beat Hitler single-handedly, and that our Soldiers were the original "Antifa".

That's actually why I do credit the Russians for remembering it. Whatever their leaders may have been, the people who fought and died were average people fighting for their Motherland. Every Victory Day, they have "The Immortal Regiment", where people march in the streets carrying the pictures of their ancestors who fought in The Great Patriotic War. And this was something that was started several years ago, completely spontaneously.

And many of the young men who fought for the Union truly believed that they were fighting against the abominable evil of slavery.

You are either fooling yourself or trying to fool others..

Heard yesterday that now the gov’t workers have 11 holidays. As if, there are at least 12 official holidays plus extra days at - pretty much insert holiday here - started with Christmas Eve, then day after Thanksgiving, never really ends. Some got a half day 2 weeks ago Fri without need or reason.

This new holiday is primarily to kill work ethic, just like the unemployment money. Funny how quickly and easily congress came together to award this but the real issues never get addressed.

How many holidays do the feds take anyway?

-----------------------------

12 Fed holidays now. Payroll cost per holiday is something like $200 billion? Anyone know a more accurate number? (I do know that there are ~2 million Federal employees).

I don’t really care how many holidays the Feds get - as long as they are meaningful ones. Which ones do you think are excessive and unnecessary, and should go, so that we can save money? (or is it just THIS one?)

I assume that you don’t think that this new holiday is ‘meaningful’ or worthwhile.

Oh so I’m racist for saying anything negative about this new holiday?!

I don’t care for anyone calling this a black holiday - holidays are for all of us - or at least the working class (see anyone can insinuate bs on others).

I also don’t care for the timing and optics of this - the current powers that be are simply going for low hanging fruit to try to boost their public perception. Yes, we need to honor histories heroes but are more and more holidays how we do this?

BTW most never heard of this date until Trump mentioned it in a speech last year.

When did I say that you were ‘racist’? And I haven’t heard anyone calling it a ‘black holiday’.

As I’ve said before, I think all of us should celebrate American victories in the cause of Freedom. This was certainly one of them.

It’s funny to me that people are nit-picking about this.

In the past, when there have been funding issues and the government has been shut down, many here have applauded. They’ve said that when the Federal employees aren’t working, they aren’t doing mischief...

That would be great if it was an “unpaid” day off. Less mischief and billions in tax money saved.

When have you heard of a federal ‘unpaid day off’?

They always get compensated ;-)

Make me King...I will make all 12 Fed holidays unpaid...it would add a great deal of “gravitas/solemnity” to the holidays (and take away some of the “free money/add holidays” pressure). ;-)

Go for it.

(But I still want them working as little as possible...)
