Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced key components of the Lone Star state’s plan to build its own barrier along its 1,200-mile border with Mexico at a press conference in Austin on Wednesday, including authorizing $250 million as a down payment to kickstart the process.
The Republican governor said that the funds are being drawn from the state budget, which allocates $1.1 billion towards border security—a record for Texas. The down payment will be used to hire a project manager and contractors for the border wall.
A letter (pdf) authorizing the transfer of the funds was signed at the press conference by Abbott, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, state House Speaker Dade Phelan, state Senator Jane Nelson, and state Rep. Greg Bonnen.
Abbott also signed a separate letter (pdf) directing the Texas Facilities Commission to hire a project manager to oversee the border wall construction, as well as the planning and execution of the construction. The project manager will also be in charge of hiring contractors and subcontractors to build the wall.
“Once hired, the program manager and contractors will identify state land and land that private landowners and local governments can volunteer for the wall,” the governor’s office announced in a release.
Anyone can donate to the construction of the wall via the donation page www.borderwall.texas.gov, Abbott announced. The Texas Division of Emergency Management will manage the donations.

Texas should add a few additional bucks to put a wall up around the White Basement to contain the Bozo-in-Chief and his Doctor.

Very similar to when the state of California stuck a thumb in George W. Bush’s eye by setting up its own fetal stem cell research institute after Bush vetoed funding for a national institute. Spent $3B in state money on it too, via Proposition 71, passed by the voters in 2004.

The Schizoid Governor gets one right. Abbott is one of the most frustrating Republican governors in this country. He makes terrible decisions and makes great decisions.
The problem is he has no Conservative Compass. From issue to issue it’s roulette. Texas deserves far better. Texas truly needs a man like Ron Desantis and not a “God I hope he gets this one right” governor.
He truly seems to be a “finger in the wind” politician and not a true patriot representative of the Great State of Texas.

He’s truly hard to figure, but in today’s world we need to celebrate every great decision and remember how good it would be to have leaders that make great decisions every day.

Unlike Koflage, if Texas sets up some type of GoFundMe thing I’m betting the money for the wall will be easy to come by. I’ll chip in what I can, when I can.
Even though Ducey is a backstabbing, corrupt, RINO, Arizona deserves to be saved. Hold the wall from the Gulf all the way to the Arizona-New Mexico border. Let Grisham deal with it.

Not anymore. I moved to Florida several years ago for work purposes. I used to live in Corpus Christi. I now live in the outer suburbs of Tampa. I work on MacDill AFB.
Why do you ask?

Because of your unglued response regarding Abbott. Really? I suggest you review the Scizoids record. He’s all over the map. What Texas needs is a man like Ron Desantis. Not Abbott and Costello without Costello. An unprincipled Finger in the Wind politician.
There is no other explanation for his various positions. Some good. Some terrible. A sure indication of a “Finger in the Wind” Politician.
A man with True Conservative Principles exhibits no such variation. A man of Principle is rock steady in his beliefs. Abbott is nothing like that. He’s a Politician.
