Sounds like these signs are critical of a government that undermines civil liberties
And MLB has been full of social matter signs these days
“And MLB has been full of social matter signs these days”
I think MLB’s recent political stances are due these teams owing the government a favor for the billions of dollars they received to build stadiums on the back of taxpayers. It seems that the only economic stimulus stadiums provide benefits the team and some of the commercial real estate close to the stadium. Overall, they’re a net loss for the taxpayer, and we’ll be paying interest on those bonds for decades to come.
On top of that, there are scumbag owners, in particular Bob Nutting of the Pittsburgh Pirates, that basically use the stadium as personal piggy bank. For whatever reason, the prick seems to get a lot of welfare from Pennsylvania ... not just for the Pirates, but also for his various ski resorts in the region.
Nutting makes no attempts to make the team competitive. When they somehow find a way to win, he makes no effort to spend money to get pieces they may need to make a serious run at anything.
What’s maddening is that the rate at which the bonds are paid down is linked to a tax on tickets sold. Nutting has zero motivation to see those bonds paid off ... for all he cares, taxpayers can be stuck with the bill for a century seeing that people pretty much don’t bother attending games at PNC Park anymore.
Finally, you’d think he’d want to field better teams to make more money. There is no need. MLB has its own welfare program. If attendance is horrible, MLB will compensate him for the “loss”. A moron could own that team and pocket $40M/year with little to no questioning thanks to people’s obsession with these stupid sports teams (don’t care if its MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL ... they’re all a waste of your time and are costing you more than you think).
So, thanks to those stadiums, the deep state has a major ally to spew propaganda to the people that still follow that garbage. That’s your tax dollars at work. Playgrounds for billionaires.
