Somehow I like my figures better. Some months ago I estimated that nearly 6% of all 500k supposed deaths from covid were really about 30k.

Recently the CDC came out with nearly the same numbers using 6% as their figure as well.

It's a trick the media uses.They put anything they want for months and when the story is waning they clean it up on page 38 with the real numbers.

I've looked at state numbers and they show about 15 to 17% more deaths in 2020 than in 2019. The science of counting deaths is pretty agreed upon. The evidence comes from the records in each locality. That makes it easy to verify at the federal level: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2778234

Provisional estimates indicate a 17.7% increase in the number of deaths in 2020 (the increase in the age-adjusted rate was 15.9%) compared with 2019, with increases in many leading causes of death.1

Note carefully they say "increases in many leading causes of death". We know that many cases were marked as COVID with no testing, just assumed. We know that COVID plus something when it was something causing the death was counted as COVID.

in aggregate 511,000 extra deaths in 2020, and 375,000 counted as COVID means at least 125,000 extra deaths from non-COVID. Plus more extra deaths from cases marked COVID that were not. The primary cause of the extra death was shutting down the health care system. I know of several hospitals that were completely closed. Shutting down the rest of the economy and locking people in their houses was not healthy either.
