Fauci knows his time is limited to join the pantheon of Pasteur, Jenner, Salk, Walter Reed etc.

He was willing to do anything to continue GOF, which, in my mind, Fauci thought was his path to the big prize, modern rapidly fielded synthetic super vaccines.
