According to all sources I’ve found, Freeh came from an Italian-American family that was not wealthy and spent he entire career until 2001 as a government employee.

With this background, just how did he amass a fortune large enough to facilitate the formation of his own “family foundation” for the purpose of reducing his income tax liability? And, how could a smart guy like Freeh be so stupid as to think that a family foundation could legally donate $100K to a private trust created for the benefit of the grandchildren of a corrupt politician?

I always marvel at the naivete of Americans who speak of corruption in other countries. I’ve lived abroad. Sure, occasionally a facilitating payment to a low-level government employee can speed up certain official processes in some other countries. And, in the US, low-level government employees don’t take or require bribes. But that’s because the US is so magnificently corrupt that the 0.1% of the elite 1% successfully denies the opportunity for graft to the 99.999%.

His mother's surname was Italian but his father's is German. Unless his dad was 3/4ths Italian, Louie is probably a mix of many European roots.
