I get asked the same thing at stores.
Don’t consider it racist at all.
LOL! FWIW, if my retail experience is anything to go by, I’ll bet those folks were on the money and you’re hiding your light under a bushel. :-)
The in-vogue thing is to remind you that it’s ok for people to assume that white people work in retail, and that’s not racist. It’s only racist against blacks and other minorities.
What the woman failed to realize is that sometimes people observe how another person shops or handles items, and if you are a confident person, even those small gestures may be enough to ask someone if they work at a place. Because I shop with confidence, I am OFTEN asked if I work at a particular store. I’m not offended.
If being mistaken for a clerk is a legitimate reason for a black person to “go off” on another person, then it’s no wonder we are seeing over the top reactions from them, and a lot of them lately.
This is all just more manipulation. As long as they can get away with it, they’ll keep it up.
Sensible people understand that not every incident is racist, because things like this happen to all of us from time to time, and it’s not based on the color of your skin.
That's where it started. An older white woman (sound familiar?) asked me for help selecting the right shotgun shells. She pulled up the text from her husband. I took the time to explain to her what her husband was asking for, the differences between shot sizes, high/low brass, 2 3/4" vs 3" etc. This led to another customer overhearing and asking me another question about shotgun shells. That led to two other people asking me about the 9mm ammo and then a final sort of philosophical discussion for a few minutes regarding some of the more esoteric/specialty rifle calibers they had ammo for. All in all I spent a good 15+ minutes helping 4 or 5 different people. My wife had wandered off by this point - she's lived with my "engineer's explanations" for 30+ years and knows what happens when I get asked questions on topics I'm into... ;-)
No, I don't work there. Yes, I have 3 college degrees and at work I lead a project team of over 100 people. No, I'm not so full of myself that I get offended when I'm asked to do something else. There is no job "beneath me." I'll play retail worker - I've been a retail worker. I do whatever needs to get done, period. All this wokeness and false offense at everything is itself offensive.
Now that’s funny!
“People Are Getting Tired of Woke Nonsense”
It doesn’t matter when they can ‘enforce’ their wokeness, and we don’t fight back (listening, Kristi?).
Until we FIGHT BACK, we’re stuck with their ‘wokeness’ and will get worse, far worse.
Perfect! The way it used to be, the way it ought to be!
Mine is, “No; but I know where a lot of stuff is located. Try aisle _______.”
Unfortunately, racism is in great demand in todays perpetually aggrieved community of woke wanna be victims so their is simply not enough racism to go around.
Due to the current shortage of racism, so woke entrepreneurs have stepped up to the plate to start manufacturing racism to solve the current racism shortage to meet the almost unlimited demand.
Racism is a growth industry and the entrepreneurs of wokness are making a killing by ramping up manufacturing to meet demand. They are even beginning to export their products to new markets like the Gaza, Europe and Sweden, all of whom have have a huge existing market base of aggrieved victims. Some like the Gaza are long established and markets for the products, but others like Europe and Sweden have new, imported customer bases with growing demand in their countries as well.
Welcome to economics of wokeness.
What a country!
Ain't America great?
I've not seen you since birth!!
I love it when insecure idiots try to play the credentials game with me. I’m a lawyer, have an MBA and am fluent in 3 languages. That beats about 99.99% of the population.
The difference is I’ve never thought spending longer in school automatically made me smarter, more competent or a better person than someone else......and I’ve always detested snobs. A lot of the Wokeratti actually do believe that. Then they lose at their own game with me. Pissing them off is such joy. :^)
So how does he pronounce Kurt Schlichter?
Is the K silent?
” . . . the cynical hucksters calling themselves “anti-racists” are actually the only significant group of active racists left in society.”
And in the same fashion, the only real fascists in contemporary American society are the violent, bullying jackwads in so-called ‘Antifa’, along with their Democrat and liberal enablers.
No truer words were ever spoken. The media are the ones pushing this woke crap. Normal people are just tired of it.
I get asked “do you work here?” too.
I never get asked whether I work in a store I am visiting, but a friend gets asked all the time - and we look fairly similar.
If you want people to think you are a doctor, walk around the store in a clean lab coat with a stethoscope around your neck. Of course, instead of, "where is (pick a product)", you might get "Doctor, it hurts when I go like this".
Special FR points if you can name the appropriate response.
One can hope.
It’s rather amusing the technical conversations that go on in certain parts of the store between customers.
I don’t get asked if I work in the stores I go to, but I do get asked technical questions about products from time to time, or my opinion about preferences. Despite being an introvert, I answer as best I can. :)
One of the questions was what the “BT” on the one rifle ammo box meant. If I had had some graph paper and my favorite mechanical pencil, or access to a dry erase board so I could properly explain the aerodynamic and subsequent ballistic differences associated with ‘boat tail’ profiles... I might still be there. ;-)
LOL. Her favorite thing is to say “I just wanted a simple yes or no answer!” I contend that all too often the question was not a simple yes/no question... ;-)
