Incompetence is the norm. Heck, we would be fired from our jobs if we were to perform like this service operates.

I always pay in. Never get a refund folks, you are giving the feral government an interest-free loan.

Govt. so short of money that they can’t make the refunds.

IRS is now as INEPT as Chairman Xiden?

PJ, that is not what the IRS is for. The IRS exists to identify potential enemies of the Biden administration and punish them. That other revenue thing is just a sideline.

Yes. As long as the return is fairly straightforward and requires no manual intervention, it should be resolved fairly quickly -- all done by computer. But if a human needs to look at it, then it could take years.

Something to think about if your refund is not crucial to your budget. I’d hate to be waiting months for the refund. I just filed and applied it to next year’s tax payment. When I do my detailed fiddling with my withholding W-4, I will take the refund into account. I’ll “get the refund” by means of reduced withholding on my paychecks starting now.

I means we should be tweaking our withholding to hit the safe harbor, or to owe a little bit, if our income is semi-predictable, right?

We filed via mail in 2020 for 2019 taxes and waited for 11 months to receive our refund. Imagine the interest they are receiving by holding onto the funds of millions of people’s refunds for an extra year.

Govt. so short of money that they can’t make the refunds.

Something like that happened in Illinois. The state was so short of funds that they couldn't pay the lottery winners.

I prefer to file on paper so the people at the IRS can do their job like the people offloading ships in California.

We filed electronically a little over 3 weeks ago and we are STILL waiting for our refund. Anyone else in the same boat?

I filed electronically on 02/22. Nothing yet. I've gone to the IRS website every day for a month to see if it's being processed and all I get is a message stating it's being processed. In past years it took a few weeks.

Haven’t gotten an IRS refund in years - I send them a check for 1 - 2 thousand every year. I don’t want to rely on them sending some of my money back to me.

The IRS has been, “working from home” due to COVID, like almost all our government agencies. Quarterly filings as well as yearly returns are being slow rolled from last year through today.

I e-filed my tax return 23 days ago. It was accepted by the IRS on the same day. No refund yet. Still being processed. It should take 3 weeks or less.

I’m still waiting for a refund for a return filed March of last year. IRS tells me the return is “still being processed.”

Same here, but on an amended return for tax year 2018.

My sister always threw in extra so she would get a big check. That cost her when Obamacare went in and she refused to pay for health insurance

Ain’t that the truth.
They do not hold those checks for any amount of time.
