Businessmen will even resort to losing minor profits to avoid losing face. Businesses will also cooperate with each other for the same reason. Everybody profits, nobody loses face. Interesting culture.
This is why Xi invited Trump to dinner in the Forbidden City, first world leader EVER to get that treatment. Xi knew Trump was the greatet adversary he had ever faced, or ever would, and had to be treated with utmost delicacy.
It didn’t work. Trump stood up to him anyway, hit China with stiffer sanctions and tarriffs, got our trade deals back on an even keel, Xi lost face. Now he wants revenge.
In addition to that, the US has always been the greatest hurdle china had to deal with in their quest for world domination, which they intend to accomplish by 2049. Donald Trump set them back at least 20 years, and if he stayed in the oval office, he might stop them entirely.
Now they have exactly what they want, the US is almost entirely out of the picture, a non threat. Once the take over is complete, nothing else is in their way, China can pretty much do as they please. And they intend to do it without ever firing a shot, from the inside instead.
And Xi gets to make up for losing face. Americans have no idea how embarrassed he is, or how important it is to avenge that. We must realize we’re dealing with someone who is just like a cornered rattlesnake. Unfortunately I think it’s too late, he has our current resident by the short curlies.

For sure. Hunter's crimes were/are MUCH worse than anyone can even imagine. Blackmailing that out of the public eye, is how Joe got the DNC nomination and is their current WH" placeholder". Thanks to Hollywood and the MSM, the US is wholly and shamefully inured to sexual misconduct and drugs abuse among politicians and their families. No one would have even blinked at that.
