Asia still beats Africa. You’re comparing a continent (or sub-continent, depending on tectonic plates) to individual countries.
Yes, I’m quite aware that Africa has many countries, more than 40. I used to like to be able to point out to my students that India (the country, not the subcontinent) had more people than all of Africa. Asia still has nearly 60% of the world’s population, but Africa since 1950 has gone from less than 10% of the total to 17% or more now. (Much of the increase can be explained by a reduction in infant mortality—still high by comparison to the industrialized countries, but much lower now than 60 or 70 years ago.)
