>>Why do they have accelerated classes then?<<
They are going to get rid of the accelerated classes.
20 years ago, my school district had a “gifted” program that we specifically moved to the school district for. They phased it out just before my kid was going to start, because it was deemed racist and they didn’t want the lawsuits.
Then the teachers ganged up on my wife because I was doing Hooked on Phonics and Hooked on Math with kid (who was doing multiplication and division of multi-digit numbers in first grade, and reading at 8th grade level). The teachers complained kid was bored in class, and wanted me to stop
So we pulled kid out and homeschooled.
What about musicians and other artists?
>>It just requires teachers that seem unlimited potential in their students, instead of limiting their potential as this article suggests.<<
More fundamentally, it requires teachers who understand the material themselves, which I think is the real situation.
True, but the parents of such children are usually also smart enough themselves to work around the school’s deficiencies.
The ones who will really be hurt will be the smart kids of stupid parents.
Its amazing that these brilliant administrators are dumbing down our educational system. Socialism at its best.
Quite true. Many teachers are functional illiterate.
That used to be the objection to the proposed new affirmative action (maybe 1972): You could let an unqualified person get the post office supervisor’s job and screw it up badly but you wouldn’t want one to pilot of the plane you are on.
A magazine went so far as to say you wouldn’t want an unqualified female airline pilot flying “during her period.”
So sexist in those old days. Today men don’t say such things.
Affirmative Action was upheld by the SCOTUS and everyone lived happilly ever after.
I agree. It took more than a few to make the advancement we made in the past.
On another note, many professions require some competence in math. Buildings, bridges, plumbing, electrical, etc. Just to name a few.
By the same logic we should eliminate high school sports.
Equity Math:
Shaneequa is meeting Tyrone at 6:00pm for a movie. It’s 5:25pm, and Tyrone is seven miles from the theater.
QUESTION: Who is Tyrone’s biological father?
That’s a trick question, with answers varying according to locale.
For example, in Little Rock Ark. answering with Bill Clinton would have heads nodding and mouthing “Ok... you win”. Impossible to disprove.
;>)
Equity Math:
Dick has eight apples, Jane has seven apples, and Tyrone has four apples.
QUESTION: From which elderly Asian woman did Tyrone strong arm rob his apples?
Equity Math:
José mows & trims lawns for $25 apiece. He cuts an average of 14 lawns per day and gives $8 for each to his helper, Juan.
QUESTION: How much did José pay Mexican coyotes to be illegally smuggled into the United States?

LOL Here is my earlier post #31:
Let’s hope there are not a lot of woke engineering hires in the bridge or sky-scraper building fields...
2 plus2 am 5
“Boeing and Delta and others not hiring the best.
Basing all on color.”
Hopefully not in building\engineering positions.
Stupid people are in charge of education. Everyone has natural gifts and talents.
Just stupid. Those who are gifted in math and can be engineers or scientists or mathematicians, give them everything they can handle. The rest of us, some algebra and geometry will get us by just fine in life.
Making it into racial politics is psychopathic.
I love that quote.
