If the captain were a male, the cat would be out of the bag in the first paragraph.
> first woman to command a warship named after a woman
Really digging for achievements.
Here is some more info. Looks like the ship upgrade might be behind schedule.

*cough* First Mate *cough* ?
Man she must have truly screwed up.....they had to hate it
Cucked REMFS
PC choice, PC fail. As usual, is my bet.
Why do people presume women are bad in leadership positions and got ahead by gender? Maybe true, but I’d rather wait for some facts. Besides, sounds like this ship has problems, maybe bad crew, work, or culture since this is now the second captain relieved?
From a different article: “The ship is in the midst of a modernization period after leaving drydock last year. Hopper is currently pier-side in Hawaii testing and reactivating systems ahead of sea trials and returning to the fleet.”
And a third: The issue was low crew morale.
She is prior enlisted. My experience (Navy 24 years) is that officers with prior enlisted time often have difficulty dealing with the crew. They bear down on the troops, and that’s the chiefs and leading petty officers’ job, not that of the commissioned officers.
Drydock, pierside modernization, and readying for sea trials is a stressful time for the entire crew. Sailors would rather be underway than tied to a pier. All the covid baloney likely also was a factor.
When steaming, a lot of B.S. goes away for a while, and everyone is doing their job and standing their watches. Morale goes up.
Doesn’t matter who screws up on a ship, the CO is responsible for everything that happens.
There are no bad regiments, only bad Colonels.
Ha - A mustang - good catch !!!
Gawd I hated out Weapons Div Warrant officer. A WW2 vet that assigned me ‘pier sweepers’ for ‘the duration of your enlistment’; Fortunately he retired shortly after dealing out that punishment.
“CO is responsible for everything that happens”
Brigade commander was sacked when his adjutant sodomized a prostitute at the officers club. Huess the general wife was also at the club that night.
She slapped a sailor that told her “Make me a sammich!”
Often is the situation. The Warrant Gunners in my squadrons were decent guys who mentored the Ordies. There always was a Chief or LPO in between who “cracked the whip.”
The woman for whom the ship was named was a real firecracker. Made admiral before the PC era, so it was earned. Sort of a scary genius version of Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies.
“Why do people presume women are bad in leadership positions and got ahead by gender?”
They don’t “presume;” they observe, just as they observe that rattlesnakes are venomous and often envenomate creatures that come within striking range.
“Maybe true, but I’d rather wait for some facts.”
Tell you what, shipmate, if you come near a rattlesnake, you just go ahead and presume that it is venomous.
“Besides, sounds like this ship has problems, maybe bad crew, work, or culture since this is now the second captain relieved?”
Hard to see what worse problems it could have than a female CO.
I tell people we used to have happy hour strippers in the back bar at the O’Club, and they look at me like my hat is on sideways. Chiefs Club across the street did, too.
