I Agree. Additionally, If people knew what goes into applying, its ridiculous. With that said. Why would anyone jeopardize their livelihood after going through the intense hazing of the application and testing process, the academy and the probation period?
Anyone in that persons past can say ANYTHING against the recruit with no consequences if a lie had been told. Then, the officer is held civilay and criminally liable (and sometimes Federally) for ANY infractions while on the job. Its a job that you have to PERFECT 100% of the time, on and off duty. Its a sacrifice to the wolves.
Eventually you are not going to find anyone who will do this job no matter what the pay, it’s not going to be worth it. My son had two uncles who were officers, one has passed and the other one begged him don’t go into law enforcement. He told him jerks on both sides of the political scene will be after you even if you don’t screw up.
He is a staunch conservative with nearly forty years of service but had become so jaded by both sides of the political aisle: his view was they are ungrateful, love to Monday morning quarterback, don’t know the law or crap about police policy and procedures, they won’t wait for the investigation to run it’s course with due process, they absolutely don’t have your back when you need them and they will damn all cops for one bad one or if they make a mistake no matter what they say. He was like F’em all they are not worth the effort anymore, take care of your own family.
