United Methodist Church leaders (conservatives) file to create new denomination, the GMC

America's third largest Christian denomination – the United Methodist Church – is splitting as conservative pastors aim to create a new denomination that will adhere to traditional biblical teachings.

Methodist church leaders have formed a new denomination – called the Global Methodist Church (GMC) – and filed for formal separation from the UMC over the latter's growing acceptance of modern teachings on sexuality and gender.

"In the United States, particularly, some bishops, clergy, and churches are operating in open defiance to the teachings of the United Methodist Church," said Keith Boyette, president of the conservative Wesleyan Covenant Association and spokesperson for the GMC. "The Church has become ungovernable as a consequence, such unchecked defiance has destroyed the integrity of the Church."

Boyette said the mission of the GMC will be "to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly."

The GMC filed for separation from the wider denomination on March 1 but has yet to hear back from UMC leaders on formally approving the split.

Working with the Wesleyan Covenant Association, the GMC said in a statement that it had created a working group in 2018 and held a conference in 2019 to explore these issues and see if there was a way to reconcile "issues that have deeply divided the UM Church for decades."

We have too many acronyms nowadays as some may mean several things. For instance, GMC has always stood for General Motors Corporation. Also, I had heard it stood for “Got Mechanic Coming”. And now it designates a church group? How confusing!

I suspect you have doctrinal disagreements with those of the free will branch of the reformation, but it’s just a guess.

Services went to 2 tier, 1 for Seniors 1 for youth, yet their collection plate is always give to the youth. What about that Senior with limited income, who needs help with inside or out side work like mowing, trimming?

Not just Methodist or Lutheran either. I’m Assembly of God, everything is geared to the youth. Not even 1 real Hymn bone is thrown our way.

We got in the habit because of COVID of watching older, passed away pastors preach on TV. Found old time Hymns. And I doubt we will change back. There will be more like us doing the same.

Back in the day. We visited the church on the day they got their new pastor. I can’t imagine being a recently ordained pastor at a church founded in 1740. Some of the original members are still in the congregation.

Nothing wrong with a church that focuses on senior citizens. Many say that youth is the future of the church, but a church of a few hundred seniors is just as vital as any other. I’m surprised more aren’t focused on seniors.

I read someplace that President Tyler’s grandson just died. It was a few months back.

Disciples of Christ leadership in Indianapolis has been infected with secularism and wokeness. It is the independence of local congregations that keep it conservative for the most part. Our pastor of 30+ years never speaks politics from the pulpit other than reminding folks to vote on election day. Unfortunately he is retiring in 6 months, but being 66 years old, none of us blame him though NONE of us desire to lose him.

Another DoC minister 50 miles north of us, is on the secular side and pushes the current secular religious garbage and apparently his congregation likes it.

Heaven forbid we kick the godless heretics out of our churches. We always must tuck our tails and run to a new organization that will also soon be taken over by heretics and ruined.

White flight is real and due to cowardice. It’s about time someone grew some balls again.

The closest thing we have to a contemporary church in the area is the Pentecostals. Everything here is traditional.

The Methodist church we attend is still using the red Hymnals.

I expect they will continue to allow divorce and remarriage as well.

Our local DOC pastor is retired and came back to pastor that church because it was conservative and he didn’t have to “play the game”. He can talk about about the deer he killed that week without Karen huffing out the door.

The Bishops are the faces we see, not the faces making the changes. Bishop Taylor’s husband is part of the shadow council. I understand Bishop Swanson is one of the few Traditionalist Bishops,

Every denomination needs to break from it's progressive version... Nice to see Methodist doing this...

“We got in the habit because of COVID of watching older, passed away pastors preach on TV. Found old time Hymns. And I doubt we will change back. There will be more like us doing the same.”

My mom is doing that.

The church has changed into providing just loving and forgiving sound bite sermons. I call it extraction theology. It is similar to the prosperity gospel except that a larger portion of the Bible is used. There are still sections that are not discussed or explained away. There is limited reflection, contemplation, or repentance. Correcting and rebuking sermons are non-existent particularly regarding protected groups. The only difficult message ever provided is the appeal for money. There is limited reflection about whether the money is spent wisely.

The worship services have changed into more of a concert. It is all about performance of the worship minister. I am surprised they haven’t started singing YMCA because that response is what many worship worship ministers desire while they are on the stage. I wonder if it has just become easier music career than playing in nightclubs. In some places they sing a song and then say lets clap to praise God. Maybe their heart is in the right place, however, we could praise God by clapping before the song was performed. Why do they always ask for applause after the song? Is it for God, or an easy way to hear applause after their performance?

I suspect the price of being a Christian is going to become quite steep. I wonder whether the church will go back to the message or continue to try to fit the church into todays society to avoid paying the price. For me, finding a prayer group has been the most rewarding.

God bless.

Opposition to female ordination is the most common understanding of scripture. There are a few denominations that see it differently, historically: methodist, assemblies, church of God. They see the BIBLE differently, and this far predates progressiveism
