Yes. Princess Toadstool, who Mario had to rescue from Bowser, yes, he was named for the lead singer from Sha Na Na. In those games, Mario was helped by froglike characters, a foreboding of, gasp... the racist PEPE THE FROG??? OH, NO! SUPER MARIO BROS MUST BE CANCELLED!!
