They basically admitted that they’ll fly it until it crashes after the first time. They’re about halfway through the flights I believe now.
That’s standard operating procedure for NASA. Build something for a limited lifespan and use it till it fails.
When he was in college my son got a job at NASA doing data collection on a solar observatory satellite. The satellite went active the month my son was born for what was supposed to be a two year mission.
25 years later it’s still operational.
