Exactly. And it not only matters where you got your degree, it matters which degree you got.
Psychiatry was invented by a genius (who now no longer gets proper credit for it, but never mind). Therefore, when it is used by other very smart people it is enormously helpful. I wouldn’t trust anyone without psychoanalytic training, which it seems hardly anyone has anymore.
Unfortunately, it does attract the lesser minds, mostly because it is like the age-old fallacious “systems” of looking into someone else’s mind. Like wanting to know the future, a fascinating pursuit. But if it’s not done correctly it can devolve into charlatanry and unconscious malice and ignorance and do more harm than good.
Someone I know had a “psychiatric social worker” as her “therapist” and learned to always look out for “number one” and to not let people push her around. That was her one and only takeaway “lesson.” Sigh.
