Cant read article but from my business activity there from 2011 to 2017 I saw it was the Marxists from inside the country to blame. The local business people call it the Latin Curse.

Much of South America was founded by conquistadors, plunderers, and those not all that geared for enterprise.

Well, my WAG as to the cause of the "Latin Curse" is the concept of democracy. The Founders of the USA knew it was one of the worst forms of government, but Latin America (and much of the rest of the world) has embraced la democracia as the end-all be-all of governmental systems, and thus ends up in the same endless cycle of democracy-corruption-tyranny-revolution-democracy.

As distasteful as it may be to say it out loud, most people are not fit to vote. They are either too stupid, too selfish, too lazy, too covetous, or too gullible. Our Forefathers knew this, and so limited the franchise to men who had proved themselves AND had a stake in limited government - landowners over a certain age. These tended to be men who were self-sufficient and had little use or patience for power in the hands of elected layabouts.

You give everyone the vote and all the lazy and greedy ones will vote for more free money and the stupid and gullible ones will vote for whatever the shysters tell them. I think it's quite clear that the downfall of any democracy begins with increasing the franchise to include everyone, because the greater the percentage of voters, the easier it is to corrupt and sucker them. You'll notice that, in the USA, it has been a steady march to increase the franchise to more and more people, and we've ended up with greater and greater centralized power and corruption.

The only reason that the USA had not followed the same pattern as the latin American countries is that our Founders started us off with an advantage - a limited franchise. But that's over, and has been for a while.
