And this is probably the main reason why so many people with serious problems are avoiding hospitals. Ads encouraging people to come to the ER if they have certain symptoms are constantly running in my area, but based on the content of such ads which go on and on about all the precautions they take, they seem to think that concerns over catching the virus are the main reason. But I suspect ending up in a situation where your loved ones can’t visit you, can’t advocate for you in person (which is at least seems more effective than a call to the doc on the phone), and you end up alone for days and days is a bigger concern. Hospitals with strict policies need to consider loosening their policies and those that already have loosened them need to be shouting that fact rom the rooftops.

Add to that, knowing nursing staffs have been decimated, and the remaining nurses are overworked and underpaid.

I'm really afraid to get anything checked out, because I'm not sure I'd survive a hospital stay, and I'd rather die at home than alone in a hospital bed.
