The notion that China is a ruthless meritocracy is laughable on its face.
The CCP is enormously corrupt, and China is following the same policy as Japan did: mercantilist, export driven growth in some industries so their profits subsidize grossly inefficient and corrupt industries in other areas.
Decouple and the CCP will have to deal with tens of millions very unhappy unemployed Chinese.

That was the very first thing that stuck out to me, "...China vastly outstripping America because it is a merciless meritocracy..."
China is many things, but it is not a "meritocracy". Perhaps if "meritocracy" is redefined to mean "industry does the bidding of The Chinese Communist Party" well...sure.

Well then, how does the CCP fix their problem of tens of millions of very unhappy unemployed Chinese? My guess: War. DING!
