A little immigrant (legal) Asian girl feels alone and awkward as she arrives in the US and starts school. Other kids decide to befriend her and make her feel included and liked. Then she starts to excel in math and other subjects, outpacing all the other kids. Then they feel hostile to her and angry at being number two to her.

Mirrors inner-city culture in which the kid who behaves and gets good grades in school is beaten up for "acting white".

Good point. Still a problem in many places, I hear. A ticket to the bottom of society if kids agree to stay underachieving.
