DINKs -- Double Income No Kids -- have reached retirement age. This is the what is at the heart of the American Heart Attack. They were too selfish to have children, and now they are angry for what they denied themselves, and they can only transfer that anger to everyone and everything around them, as they buy second houses, boats, you name it, in pursuit of what nephews and nieces cannot provide -- consanguinity.

That could certainly be a part of it.

I suspect that what I'm actually having trouble with is that I'm trying to find their reasons. They don't have reasons though, they have emotions and feelings.

That seems to be at the root of it, though I'm only talking about actual people, I understand that the Pols want their power, and the media goons want their clicks.

Fear, certainly is a powerful component. But the dopamine high from trying to shame their neighbors (and errant family members) is a part of it as well.

At perhaps an even more basic level, the disconnect between the conservative minded folks and the liberals is that conservatives just accept, at some fundamental level, that we can't direct nature, that despite our best efforts, quite a few things are outside of human agency and control.

My cousin was heatedly complaining about the "genocidal public policy response" to the pandemic, and I honestly don't know what he's talking about. At this point, surely his reason tells him that the "public policy approach" had nothing at all to do with containing, or not containing, the spread of the WuFlu. I should just accept that the liberals have abandoned reason, and have put themselves at the mercy of the hard left.
