The Emperor’s New Clothes is based on a Spanish book of tales from 1335 that was translated into German and read by Hans Christian Anderson but there is an Indian version of the story that is even older than that.

Thanks! The earliest date to the belief that one is made of glass is King Charles VI in 1393 thinking he was. Obviously the Emperor’s new clothes means more the way we always think of it with regard to one’s ego and those around them to stroke it and to belong.
