Texas should have just increased capacity to 100%, screw the EPA.

ERCOT Protocols require 5 members be unfillinated.
Who wrote the Protocols?
Market Participants.
Who were the Market Participants?
Wires companies, they get their money anyway.
Generators, brought their big spoons to the table.

Five members of the ERCOT board have resigned, lawsuits have been filed. ERCOT, power providers, Texas political leaders, the PUC and utility companies will have plenty of questions to answer.

And ten years from now if a similar winter storm hits then the results will be the same, if not worse.

This a simplified diagram of the nuclear steam supply system at the South Texas Nuclear Power Plant. There are two loops isolated from each other. Steam from the reactor flows to the steam generator (primary loop) where it heats the water returning from the turbine to steam (secondary loop) which returns to the turbine which drives the generator. This type of a system is a pressurized water reactor (PWR). Water pumped from the lake which was interrupted somehow cools the steam expended from the turbine via another loop in the condenser. When the cooling water from the lake stopped the reactor shut down. That water does NOT flow to the reactor. Fukushima is a different system (BWR) which I'll explain in my next post. FWIW, the core at Fukushima wasn't exposed.

,At Fukushima it was the spent fuel pool that was exposed. Not the reactor nor the core within the reactor. Fukushima was an early boiling water reactor (BWR) design where the spent fuel pool was not contained in a hardened building.

When the tsunami prevented the emergency diesel generators from getting fuel from the storage tank, they shut down. The loss of power shut down the pumps that circulated cooling water to the spent fuel pool.

The water that was sprayed onto the building was to cool the spent fuel pool NOT the reactor. The reactor is isolated within the containment building.

You can see the reactor's location within the containment building in the image below. The reactor is the vertical structure with the conical cap.

The spent fuel pool is OUTSIDE the containment (numbered 14) and was covered by a pole building type, in a manner of speaking, structure. That is the building that was destroyed NOT the containment housing the reactor.
