Might have been a consideration.
Kind of like Russia bragging about beating Germany as if Normandy had nothing to do with it.

True. And that certainly helped the Chinese in their war against Japan. On the other hand, the Chinese defenders were made up of two forces that hated and distrusted each other - the Nationalists and the Communists. There could be no unified command structure, as was true elsewhere. Given that, I’d say the Chinese did quite well holding back Tojo and his gang.
