That’s strange. Most of the time politicians are on top of things during an emergency. Only a few times did politicians fail. New Orleans and Texas.

That’s sort of my point. Bad optics aside, what was Cruz supposed to do? Make phone calls? Man a soup kitchen? During our emergency, the local road district started to clear the roads from all of the fallen trees (though farmers with chainsaws were out before the road district), the local utility started rewiring the grid. I don’t recall, but the nearby city government probably opened city facilities for people to sleep in a warm place—if they could get to them.

The ice storm was so bad, that the roads were virtually impassable. Even walking around my house was pretty much impossible, because as soon as there was any slope at all, you started sliding down hill.

Again, any failure on the part of politicians in either Texas or New Orleans was on the local/state level. Either not anticipating the disaster or failing to deal with it. Yes, I remember the school buses in the flooded parking lot. The mayor saying his people needed Greyhounds to evacuate not school buses. Like Trump, GWB got blamed for not imposing his will on governors even though that’s not how our system of government is supposed to work.
