Cape Girardeau is about 500 miles north of Houston and more than 800 miles north of Brownsville. The buildings in Cape Girardeau are probably built with far more insulation than those in a southern state.

I have no doubt. Our house was able to stay livable but very cold for 3 days. As soon as the roads were cleared we got a room in a local motel and finally got warm. I realize the homes of Texas are much less prepared for a power outage.

We got the same storm Texas got. But happily our power has remained on. During the coldest, windiest days, the heater was only able to get the temp up to 67ยบ. Now that it’s warmed up to the 20s the place is livable.

Learning from the storm I bought a generator and in early ‘20 had an electrician instal a bypass circuit so that we get three rooms with electricity and power to the heating system.
