WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz flew home from Mexico Thursday, amid outrage over his trip during a crisis-level storm in Texas — explaining he was only chaperoning his daughters and their friends on the flight.
The Republican lawmaker was seen getting back on a plane to the US on Thursday afternoon and issued a statement explaining that was not on a vacation himself, but was accompanying his daughters on a flight to theirs.

This is a COMPLETE nothingburger. The media feels strongly that Cruz should have been shivering in Texas because he’s a leading Republican they want to smear to deflect attention from their doddering “President,” and that’s ALL this is.
They’re desperate now that they don’t have Trump to attack 24/7. Look for similar hypocritical attacks on Abbott, DeSantis, and other popular Republicans.
After the whole DC debacle, Trump took some time off. Why can’t Ted do the same thing?
I love how he tries weaseling out his mess by claiming he was just escorting the kids (one way.) I’m surprised he didn’t blame his wife.
Agree - this goes down as maybe the DUMBEST political move that I’ve ever seen...and his recovery attempt by jetting straight home won’t even make news beyond conservative circles.
This is ongoing right now. Anyone regardless of party will look awful for screwing up like this in the middle of a fairly major disaster.
Will he change from Skechers to fashionable survival boots and an LL Bean arctic parka to look like he cares? Maybe with Ivory Snow detergent flakes tossed on his hair to make him look like he’s been outside in the freezing weather. Where can he step out of a luxury limo and not step in snow or ice in Texas? Like other people? A sheltered life.
Sorry, I used to like him for a while but am remembering his anti-Trump stunt at the convention. Now it’s reigniting my resentment. Also “caused DC rioting” didn’t enamor me.
Just the media sending a message to the GOP to leave China Mitch alone.
In the end, maybe it works out for the best. Abbott is up for re-election in 2 years, whereas Cruz has 4 years. So maybe he did this stunt to help out Abbott and get the arrows pointed to him?
It’s hard to see any other reason, other than SHEER STUPIDITY on his part.

I’ve got to agree. Why do so many conservatives seem to ALWAYS so quickly get behind obvious leftist media smears on their own people? Especially for something as innocuous as this?

Answer: Yes, of course.
Thank God! Now we can all relax and go on to the next controversy since people will no longer be pooping into plastic bags because their utility companies and state utility officials were unprepared for an entirely predictable weather event.
I am still trying to figure out how a Senator doing photo ops or being within the borders of a state is supposed to fix this. Probably bad optics, but why does everyone look to DC to fix everything and follow the lead of journalists who never fix a single problem?
Abbot and his administration have to deal with this. Congress will send checks as usual and no amount of “presence” by Cruz will fix a thing.

I admired Cruz between my not liking him stints. I like a lot of what he’s done and said. But he shouldn’t diss Trump or his supporters. It makes me uneasy about supporting him. I guess we are back to “Dole is better than....” and “Romney is better than... (that one I didn’t fall for, I am thankful to say.)

Maybe, just maybe, Ted Cruz will mature enough to keep his quick tongue on hold ... Personally, I could care less if he moves his whole harem to Mexico .. Trust is one vein I will never have for this man.
The media plays the simple-minded like a fiddle.
