It's fantastic technology and I will be watching and hoping everything is successful - but; what's the point of looking for "signs of life"? What would that give us?

If there is or was life on Mars, it's a good bet there is life throughout the Universe... Interesting to know. Perhaps useful to know. Maybe even crucial to know.
