“ I think this is really great.

My kid is only a junior in high school and is now almost finished with the AP Calculus series. By the time he graduates, he should have the entire undergrad Engineering math requirement behind him. He’s even had an intro to Differential Equations.

He should have NO competition from these morons. If the beaming simpletons of Oregon want to teach their spawn MathBonics, let them. They can be the losers of the game while the hard working kids move up and on.”

Your boy has got to have risen to the ranks of grandmaster klansman by now if that’s the case! 😉

He should have NO competition from these morons.

They will still want his money. Also, the competition is from engineers in China, Korea, Germany, etc…. Fed.gov and Wall Street will make sure of that.

That may be the attitude and of course it’s hilarious.

One thing that I always used to believe was the real sciences were neutral - anyone who had some talent and will power could make it. Equations are neutral: you get them or you don’t. I have seen actual cases of that, and some of them in rather high places.

So to dilute it is to destroy it. There’s no doubt that everyone could use more help: American high schools are thin on helpful tutoring. But the texts I have seen are the opposite of helpful - the Common Core crap was so bad, it was like they were teaching from comic books.

Lots of help now exists in American universities, because they have so many remedial programs to make up for the secondary education problems. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
