I remember my Navy days. I know that we were barbarians and baby killers but as bad as we were we were all on one team and that was the most important thing. We all were brothers.
I served 61'-64', back when the civil rights conflicts were just heating up. I remember sitting at a table in the NOB NORVA enlisted men's club having a beer with a black shipmate from Chicago. We talked for awhile, and he said "Lots of your people here, lots of my people, but no trouble, everybody getting along". He was right; we were all BLUE.
Not that there weren't a few racist @$$hole$...
