“Collaborate ONLY, ONLY with life-long friends of 20+ years and family. And be leery of both.”
This is true. Caution is the word of the day. A friend of mine who worked at a gun store told me they are exceedingly careful not to break any rules for anybody. Even regular customers. Say one of them gets into some kind of legal trouble with FBI, DEA, etc. They are ALWAYS solicited that if they can be an informant, they can get a pass.
Sad to say, but people in legal hot water think of their self, their family, their finances, and staying out of prison FIRST.
If they think they can get you to agree to anything sketchy, they will salve the conscience by telling theirself that you were doing something wrong anyway and they didn’t make you do it. The Feds will assure them they they will be an anonymous informant.
Bold braggart talk you don’t mean is very dangerous in a repressive authoritarian era. Stay quiet.
Stay quiet.

Yes, do like the Jews did in 1930s Deutschland. Just stay quiet and you’ll be safe!

Look up the saga of Randy Weaver at Ruby Ridge. The ATF entrapped him into doing some gunsmithing on a shotgun. It wound up (according to them) a quarter inch too short to be legal. Then they demanded he infiltrate a group for them, and he refused.
