Georgia Republicans are pushing a series of new voting rules that would clamp down on or roll back many of the policies that helped drive Democratic turnout in recent elections.
The measures being introduced in the GOP-controlled state legislature include efforts to ban automatic voter registration and the use of drop boxes for returning absentee ballots. Another proposal seeks to do away with a state law that allows voters to cast absentee ballots without an excuse for doing so.
The new push for voting restrictions comes after Democrats scored a slew of victories in Georgia in late 2020 and early 2021.
In November, President Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry the state in nearly three decades. That victory was followed in January by Democratic wins in a pair of Senate runoffs that effectively ended Republican control of the upper chamber.
Some calls for stricter voting requirements have already won support from top Republicans in the state, who argue they're necessary to fight voter fraud and election malfeasance - despite the fact that Georgia officials, including Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, have repeatedly debunked claims of systemic irregularities in the election.
In an interview with the "Ruthless" podcast released on Tuesday, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) said that state lawmakers should look at ways to make it "easy to vote" but "hard to cheat," suggesting a photo ID requirement for absentee ballots.
"I do think there's things that we need to do, seeing how many people voted absentee, the demand and the volume is significantly more than we've ever seen in the past," Kemp said. "I think that gives us some reasoning to go into this session, which we're doing now and consider other ways to make it easy to vote in Georgia, but also hard to cheat."

And dump Dominion. And dont be out of session during the certification of electors.
And while you’re at it...GET RID OF THE VOTING MACHINES!
Serendipity.
I just posted an article written by this same doofus in 2016 about celebrities encouraging the GOP to deny Trump an electoral college victory.
He appears to be just your run-of-the-mill pencil-necked leftie keyboard warrior.
Oh now that they have gotten rid of Trump, it’s time to help the GOPe win elections again.
Motor-voter has to go, too.

Horse. Barn door. Something like that.
The GOP should have done this before the presidential election.
Which means the Democrats will fight these changes in court on the grounds that they're meant for voter suppression and nothing else.
Why were these loose rules in place to begin with? This is ridiculous.
Now because they are going to implement what are only common sense election security measures (which should have always been in place), the media can report that they are trying suppress voting.
Nuts.
And close that darned door on the horse barn.
A little late, don’t ya think?!?!?!?
Bingo!!!!
Elections are one day, not months long, in person, with limited absentee ballots.
Too late now morons! You are now servants to the DNC
It’s a tiny start, tiny. They need massive reforms to clean up the mess.
It’s too late @$$holes. Georgia is now officially and permanently BLUE!!! Just like the rest of the U.S.
After losses to cheating Democrats.
First, it should be made clear that the legislative branch is given the responsibility for the elections by the US Constitution. Therefore, all authority ultimately falls to the state legislature even though responsibilities may be or have been delegated to the executive branch. Ultimate authority cannot be permanently legislated away since the authority and responsibility is given by the US, not state constitution.
All records (ballots, logs, etc) must be kept for a period of 22 months. I believe this to be federal law. Therefore, any destruction of such prior to that time-frame should be punishable to the greatest extent. Access should always be granted to the ballots by the legislative branch to audit—even forensically—the ballots.
Equipment:
In regards to the election equipment, it is imperative that the software on the equipment, (both poll and counting equipment) are open-sourced. Second, there should be no ability for it to be able to communicate electronically (whether by internet, Bluetooth, cellular, etc). Furthermore, all servers used MUST be domiciled within the US, and should be auditable with permanent record logs of all activities. The right to audit must be guaranteed to the state.
Absentee:
It would be incredibly simple to implement certain checks to ensure ballots are properly requested, sent, and received. For example:
• A notification (text, phone recording, email, etc) is sent to the voter record on file when an absentee ballot is requested by the voter, sent by the state, and received by the state. As part of the message, there should be contact information if the voter did not request or send the ballot to rectify a fraudulent ballot. No absentee ballot may be sent without a proper request. I would also recommend providing the ability for a voter to electronically check to ensure that his or her ballot has been received.
• Under no circumstances should the party ID of the voter be able to be determined from the outside of the ballot (the envelope).
• Under no circumstances should a late absentee ballot be accepted.
Day of voting / counting:
At all times poll monitors from both parties should equally retain access to the voting process. This applies the vote counting as well. If for any reason or circumstance this cannot happen or voting must be halted, the national guard will be required to be on premise to ensure the integrity of the ballots and equipment. Any adjudication of ballots must be done equally by representatives of both major parties. There should NEVER be any ability for a new ballot to be produced to replace the adjudicated ballot.
These are just a few key suggestions I would make. I have a lot of other ideas that I would suggest that could greatly secure the integrity of the elections, but I think these are the ones are the quickest and easiest to implement. Again, the state legislature have the ultimate authority, and that must be clearly stated and maintained.
