It’s good to know that the only reason this is happening is because the dems and romney faction want to block Trump from running again in 2024.

If they need to fraud the vote again, then they will, so it doesn’t really matter if he runs. Cheaters cheat.

Republican Party is dead!

There is no intellectual honesty. There is no backbone. There is no life left in the Republican Party.

“We heard arguments from both sides on the constitutionality of having a Senate trial of a president who has since left office. A sufficient amount of evidence of constitutionality exists for the Senate to proceed with the trial. This vote is not a prejudgment on the final vote to convict,” said Dr. Cassidy. “If anyone disagrees with my vote and would like an explanation, I ask them to listen to the arguments presented by the House Managers and former President Trump’s lawyers. The House managers had much stronger constitutional arguments. The president’s team did not.”

Bill Cassidy

100% agree.

I would like to see the scotus rule on the constitutionality of impeaching a former president, though. These senate clowns don’t take the constitution any more seriously than I take sermons by Jethro Dollar or whatever his name is.

I hate these people but what good does that do?

“No. A court decides if it is legal.”

Agreed. The fact that Roberts refused to preside speaks volumes.

If Trumps lawyers were smart ( I’m beginning to doubt that) they would file an emergency writ with SCOTUS challenging the constitutionality of the vote by the senate. That would stop the trial in its tracks.

They can disallow him but I’ll still vote for him whether or not he is on the ballot, I’ll write him in. I’m not about to allow a bunch of criminal communist thugs take away my right to vote for a person I choose

I’m sorry...help me out...and I’m sorry if this has already been stated.

How can the Senate vote on whether or not something is Constitutional? Isn’t that why we have a Supreme Court?

I kind of wish Trump would lose so he can appeal to the Supreme Court who should make it clear this whole exercise is a sham...

And you what the USSC will probably say? Trump doesn't have standing.....

Roberts has proven time and time again that he is a useless wimp. He needs to be pushed out.

That would be truly fun to watch.

But, no doubt in my mind. I’d love to see scotus decide the issue. How would we frame it? “Can a former president be tried in an impeachment trial, even if the impeachment was delivered before he left office?”

How would you put it?

If it’s so constitutional - where’s Roberts?

Robert’s role in an impeachment trial is limited to presiding over a sitting President. This is to avoid the obvious conflict of interest if the VP were to preside—especially under the original rules where the VP was the one who came in second in the Presidential election.

The Chief Justice plays no role in other impeachment trials and since President Trump is no longer in office, there is no need for the CJ to preside.

The Rule of Law is no more, the Constitution is what these elected-criminals say it is.

They voted that what they are about to do is constitutional. That would allow for an immediate challenge to their vote. Just file an emergency writ. Trump clearly has standing now. And the need for an emergency hearing bears on his rights as a citizen. He is the target of a bill of attainder.

Just file it immediately. Don’t Even wait for the court to open. Slide it under the door. Then file for an injunction stopping the trial until the court rules on it.

Remember, lying to Congress is a felony.

That's a real knee slapper right there? If lying to Congress is a felony 95% of the congress-critters are felons.

You can NOT vote to say something is constitutional....it either is or it is not.........in this case the latter is true
