...but I can’t find where you can impeach and convict a private citizen.

They didn't impeach a private citizen, they impeached a sitting president. Impeachment mandates a trial, but I highly doubt that the Founders ever imagined a situation where Congress would impeach a president two weeks before his term in office ended.

Good. I thought the argument in favor of constitutionality of the impeachment trail was solid. I also think that setting a precedent for a “January exception” is dangerous.

I disagree. Impeachment exists exclusively for removal from office. Criminal conduct, if it occurs, can be prosecuted whether or not it occurs in January. The "January exception" argument is a red herring because judicial proceedings in a court of law are the proper remedy for criminal actions.

Ben Sasse surprises me. When I have heard him speak, he’s always come across as Constitutionally minded.

Sasse has just been censured by his local GOP congress. He's a RINO.

That’s good. The only hope is to primary every single one of them. Let each of them have to spend $30 million defend their seats and still have a chance to lose.

“(2/3) * 100 = 66 (or 67 rounding up ! Which means 11 more)”

Remember Dominion counts votes as a decimal.

(2/3) = .666 or .66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666.....................................................

Trump Hater from day one. He almost got in a fight with Hannity about it before the 2016 election.

It’s really kind of absurd to have the legislature decide constitutionality. That’s for the court to decide. And where is the court during this farce? Hiding.

Not being American and only being a recent listener of Hannity, about 4 months, I wasn’t aware of that.

He needs to be primaried badly.

“A couple of them will vote against impeachment and later say, “I believed it was constitutional but Trump was not guilty of an impeachable offense. So I voted for the trial but not impeachment.” I was for it before I was against it. Hopefully Cassidy’s voters are not as stupid as he thinks they are.”
I think that is Cassidy’s strategy. Cassidy did vote for the trial to continue but I predict he will vote for acquittal. Maybe one more Republican will do the same. I’m predicting 54 votes for conviction, 46 votes for acquittal. So Trump will be acquitted for the second time.

Personal feelings do not qualify to decide constitutionality

Clinton paid super lawyer Bob Bennet hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend him against Paula Jones and it ended with his impeachment and disbarment.

All Bennett had to do was nothing. Just let it go to default. It would have saved Clinton a ton of money and his legacy.

Sometimes hiring a high profile attorney is not the best strategy. Sometimes not even showing up in court is the best strategy.

Maybe trump should have just let the circus play out. Sending a team of lawyers is not going to change the verdict. It’s a kangaroo court. It should be treated as such.

Hi.

“They didn’t impeach a private citizen, they impeached a sitting president. Impeachment mandates a trial, “

Okay, I’ll play. So Donald J. Trump ks convicted in the Senate (2/3).

And the punishment for whatever he did is that he can’t run for federal office again.

I know you know where that type of punishment falls under the Constitution.
