The WP does not want the competition for cutthroat piracy to be diminished by even the least hint that anywhere else may lay claim to “romanticizing” their methods.
Actually, most pirates were on the level of the Antifa/BLM mobs that ravaged so many cities this past year. The WP does an excellent job of painting them as “heroic” figures.

A couple of years ago I read an article about how politically correct they were, they had gays, POC, the whole schmier. They just start with a conclusion and work backwards. There is no truth anymore.

Tampa Bay should rename themselves the “Politicians” or the “Journalists”, but that would scare the kids too much.
I get a kick out of how the “Golden Age of Piracy” is celebrated in movies, TV shows and festivals. There is even a Talk Like a Pirate Day. Two centuries from now, will the late 20th-early 21st centuries be celebrated as the Golden Age of Street Gangs, and will there be a Talk Like a Gangbanger Day?
