TORONTO - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced stricter restrictions on travelers in response to new, likely more contagious variants of the novel coronavirus — including making it mandatory for travelers to quarantine in a hotel at their own expense when they arrive in Canada and suspending airline service to Mexico and all Caribbean destinations until April 30.
Trudeau said in addition to the pre-boarding test Canada already requires, the government will be introducing mandatory PCR testing at the airport for people returning to Canada.
“Travelers will then have to wait for up to three days at an approved hotel for their test results, at their own expense, which is expected to be more than $2,000,” Trudeau said.
“Those with negative test results will then be able to quarantine at home under significantly increased surveillance and enforcement.”
He said the measure will be take effect “in the coming weeks.”
The steep cost for the hotel stay includes the cost for a private PCR test, security, food and the cost of measures the designated hotels will have to take to keep their workers safe.
“The cost is a ballparking. This isn’t like any other facility. This is one where there has to be infection prevention control measures, security and other costs as well. It’s not just a regular stay at a hotel,” said Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer.

Ah.. an APPROVED hotel... one that has a record of donations to and affinity for the ruling liberals.

Anytime a politician decides it will take weeks to implement an urgent measure, you know it’s a scam. Trudeau has kept the flights coming for 11 months and now decides it may not be a good idea to let planeloads of infected people arrive here from other countries and let them loose in the country. Just two weeks ago there were several planes arrived from Haiti that were full of Covid infected people.
No, it means the government hasn’t yet chosen the hotels to be approved until the kickbacks come in.

My friend is a flight attendant, who flew into Toronto the same day as those planes from Haiti. She had to quarantine for 3 days in a Downtown hotel.
What protection and regulations do the hotel and food industry people have? Can they launder dirty bed linens and dishes but go to the mall after work?
Does Canada understand people can come and go by other means than planes? Unless they have the military stationed every 10 feet around the entire border, folks will be coming in. Alaska isn’t on the southern border, so what if I hopped a plane from Florida to Alaska and then on to Canada? What if I sailed from Hawaii to Canada? What about planes from the UK that’s had some 28 variants of the China flu or from Africa that’s had 18 variants? Are those plane passengers ok to come into the country?

Basically it eliminates foreign travel for everyone except the elites (govt employees).
