And I’m still waiting to see a study on environmental impact of the manufacture and disposal of the batteries.

Lead-acid batteries have a high rate of recycling. Same is happening for EV batteries. Tesla already has arrangements in place for recycling all their EV batteries to recover their ingredients for new use.
